North Wales has now been named the most popular tourist destination for UK holidaymakers this summer. It has even overtaken the likes of Devon and Cornwall for the top spot for the first time ever!

Within Wales as a whole Llandudno takes the top spot alongside Anglesey and Tenby. Making Bryn Y Mor the perfect base location for your next holiday.

There’s some great visitor attractions close by. Here are TripAdvisor’s top 10 attractions of North Wales:

  1. The Great Orme
  2. Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
  3. Conwy Town Walls
  4. Portmeirion Village
  5. Moel Famau
  6. Beaumaris Castle
  7. Dinorwic Slate Quarry
  8. Electric Mountain
  9. Barmouth Bridge
  10. Dolbadarn Castle

As well as top visitor attractions there is plenty to do locally as well as further afield such as:

Watersports including Surfing and Paddleboarding

Watersports, such as surfing and paddleboarding, have grown in popularity over the last couple of years and there are plenty of places around Llandudno try it out for yourself.

Paddleboarding

If you are trying paddleboarding for the first time we recommend going on a good day when there is minimal wind. A lake is best as the water will be much calmer to help you get your bearings. Many lakes around the North Wales area also have paddleboard hire and you can even get instructor classes at some. So before going out, buying a board, and even a wetsuit, we recommend you look into hiring out your equipment first.

Surfing

Looking for more of a thrill? Why not try surfing? Adventure Parc Snowdonia (Surf Snowdonia), is based in Trefriw and is the world’s first inland lagoon. Waves here are guaranteed every 90 seconds and gives you the opportunity to try it out with lessons available for beginners from expert instructors.

Zip Lining

Titan 2

Perfect for the whole family. This Zip World adventure will have you wanting more. Titan 2 is Europe’s first 4 person zip line which allows you to zip line with your family as well as experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site as you ride on through with the Quarry Explorer through the slate landscape.

Velocity 2

Scream if you want to go faster! Velocity 2 is the fastest zip line in the world since 2013. Soar over Penrhyn Quarry with speeds of up to 100mph down a 1.5km zip line. Not only will you feel the adrenaline rush but you will also enjoy the picturesque landscape surroundings.

Slate Caverns

Fancy something a little different? Why not zip line through a cave? At Zip World’s Slate Caverns you can. This one-of-a-kind experience takes around 3 hours and will leave you exhilarated. Set in one of the historic slate mines, now with World Heritage Status, you’ll be led through nooks, crannies, tunnels, experience 13 zip lines, rope bridges, tight ropes and so much more.

Rock Climbing

Did you know that rock climbing is now an Olympic sport? Featured in the most recent Tokyo 2020 Olympic games, rock climbing is sure to become more popular as the years go on. We don’t recommend going solo though if you are a beginner – seek out a course to help you on your way.

Or, if you don’t want to battle the elements just yet, try first at the Boathouse Climbing Centre at the Old Lifeboat Station in Llandudno. Rock climbing is meant to help with both your physical and mental wellbeing. Give it a go – it might be just up your street.
